Tebing Keraton
Puncak Kordon, Bandund, Indonesia, 40198
Translated from Indonesian as “The Royal Cliff”, Tebing Keraton overlooks some of Bandung’s lushest landscapes. Hailed as a hidden gem that provides a relaxing respite from the bustle of the city, the viewpoint features a rocky outcrop with a backdrop of the dense and mist-shrouded pine forest below. Bring your camera, as the views are a must for photographers.
The basics
From the car parking area, it takes around 45 minutes of uphill walking to reach the lookout point at Tebing Keraton. If you’d rather save your legs, you can hire a motorbike taxi to take you to the top; prices are negotiable and cash is typically preferred. Some private and personalized tours of Bandung can add Tebing Keraton to the itinerary, along with other must-see local attractions, such as Braga Street, a bustling hub of history and culture.
Things to know before you go
There’s an entrance fee to enter the hiking route that is payable at the ticket office near the entrance. Indonesian locals receive a hefty discount.
Some food and drink vendors sell refreshments at the entrance to the cliff.
The parking lot closest to the cliff is for motorcycles only.
There are no secure railings surrounding the high edges, so keep an eye on young children and watch your footing.
How to get there
Tebing Keraton is 8 miles (13 kilometers) from the center of Bandung. No public transport takes you there directly, but you can hire a taxi or a rideshare service. The drive takes around 45 minutes depending on traffic. Alternatively, book a tour that includes round-trip transportation.
When to get there
Tebing Keraton is a popular spot to watch the sunrise or sunset over the hills. It’s particularly pretty in the early morning, when blankets of mist sit over the treetops, but expect to share the space with plenty of others. The dry season in Bandung is from May to October, which is the best time to visit this region of Indonesia.
The best natural attractions in Bandung
Even though it's nicknamed the “Paris of Java”, there’s more to Bandung than just architecture. The most famous natural landmark is indisputably Kawah Putih (White Crater), a volcanic crater filled with eerie-colored white-turquoise water shrouded by forest. Another must-see is the Tangkuban Perahu, an active volcano you can drive to the top of.
