Situated near the Anglo-Scottish border, The Devil’s Porridge Museum commemorates the history of the HM Factory Gretna, which was the largest munitions factory in the world during World War I, employing nearly 12,000 young women, who mixed the volatile paste that filled munitions. Artefacts, photographs, oral histories, and other exhibits give you an in-depth look at this work as well as the region’s history during World War II, when the Solway Coast was once again a center of military action.

Most visitors find it easiest to reach the museum in a private vehicle, and there’s ample free parking for cars and coaches on site. You can also reach the park by bus; the Auckland Walk stop is just outside the museum entrance.
