The Look Out Discovery Centre

Nine Mile Ride, Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12 7QW

Inspire young minds and have a fun, as well as educational, day out at the Look Out Discovery Centre. Hands-on science and nature exhibits and shows teach kids all about the way the world works. Children can learn from more than 90 activities, from launching a hydrogen rocket to playing with boats or building a house.

The Basics

Visitors explore the center at their own pace. Activities and exhibits are organized into zones, including Forces and Movement, in which participants can send a hot-air balloon skyward; Body and Perception, where you can test your reaction speed, and Light and Colour, where you can capture your silhouette in a shadow box. A forestry-themed exhibit is home to a wide range of insects, amphibians, and reptiles.

The Look Out also has a play area outside, split into three sections: an inclusive play area with a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round, slide, and a cradle swing; an area for younger children that includes a ship to set sail in; and a more challenging area for children aged 7–11, which includes a fort to defend.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Look Out Discovery Centre is a must-visit for families.

  • The center is wheelchair-accessible.

How to Get There

The center is around a 55-minute drive from London and a 10-minute drive (or 20-minute bus ride) from Bracknell. You can get there via the M3 (junction 3) and the M4 (junction 10)—look out for the brown signs. Located opposite Coral Reef Waterworld, the center has on-site parking.

When to Get There

The Look Out Discovery Centre is open every day from midmorning to early evening. It is usually at its busiest during English school holidays and on the weekends, when special shows are held throughout the day—shows incur a small additional charge.

Go Ape Bracknell

Next to the Look Out Discovery Centre, Go Ape offers an adrenaline-pumping adventure: the chance to tackle an obstacle course up high in the trees. The Tree Top Adventure course is specifically aimed at younger kids, with wobbly bridges, logs to walk along, rope tunnels, and exciting aerial ziplines. Two further courses target older kids, teens, and adults.
