The Basics

Ticket prices for the Throne of Helios are similar to movie tickets, with discounts for children. While you can buy them at the cinema itself, it’s worth prebooking online, particularly during the European summer peak season (late June, July, and August) and around Easter (both Western and Orthodox). There are just 49 seats in the auditorium, so tickets get booked up fast.

TheThrone of Helios movie lasts around 20 minutes, whileThe Rhodes Race runs a little over five minutes. A few Rhodes tours, particularly family-focused ones, include a screening of the movies.

• The Throne of Helios is a must for families and anyone who’d like to learn about Rhodes’ history without spending too much time reading.

• Listen to the soundtrack through headphones in your choice of more than 10 languages (all European).

• The Throne of Helios is wheelchair-accessible, but it’s not suitable for travelers who are pregnant or suffer from motion sickness, back problems, or epilepsy.

How to Get There

The Throne of Helios is conveniently positioned in the heart of Rhodes Town, a little back from the Mandraki Harbor waterfront, just south of the Church of the Annunciation (Evangelismos Church). It’s an easy walk from the eastern, western, and urban bus stops, which connect around Rhodes Town and the island proper.

When to Get There

During the summer season (roughly, July through November), screenings run half-hourly throughout the day, from morning until late in the evening. During winter, there are fewer screenings. Morning and midafternoon showings get booked up well in advance during high season.

9D cinema takes 3D to the next level. Besides 3D glasses and headsets to hear the multilingual audio, the cinema delivers a range of special effects for a gripping and immersive experience. Moving seats simulate events such as earthquakes; scents re-create trees, flowers, and more; while other effects include smoke, fire, wind, rain, and snow.
