One of Montevideo’s most visited art museums, its vast collection features Garcia’s work, alongside temporary exhibitions from local contemporary artists.

The Basics

Explore four floors of galleries at the Torres García Museum, including both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Highlights include García’s Famous Men series, featuring quirky portraits of icons such as Beethoven, Da Vinci, and Dostoyevsky; paintings, drawings, and sculptures created during the artist’s time in New York and the Mediterranean; and an exhibition on the life and works of Garcia, with original writings, personal effects, and photographs. The museum also hosts theater performances and art workshops in its upper floor studios.

How to Get There

Torres Garcia Museum is located on Peatonal Sarandí, just to the west of Plaza Independencia. Multiple bus routes stop at the Plaza Independencia bus station, just a 2-minute walk from the museum. The museum is also easy to reach on foot from anywhere in downtown Montevideo.

When to Get There

The museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm. Spanish and English language tours are available on Saturdays; check the website in advance for the times.
