Tucheng Tung Blossom Trail

No. 90-1 Chengtian Road, Tucheng, New Taipei, Taiwan, 236

Tung trees, characterized by clusters of white blossoms that emerge in late spring, were once widely cultivated by the Hakka ethnic group throughout Taiwan. The blossom has since become a cultural symbol of the Hakka and each spring, people from around the country come to see the trees in bloom along the Tucheng Tung Blossom Trail.

The Basics

While cherry blossoms get much of the glory in Taiwan, the display of tung blossoms in Tucheng is just as spectacular. Near the trail’s halfway point, you’ll find Tung Blossom Park, an open performance space and recreational area where you can stop to admire the blossoms. At night, the space lights up as hundreds of fireflies take flight. While it’s possible to visit the trail independently, consider booking a self-guided tour with round-trip transfer to your Taipei hotel to avoid the hassle of public transportation.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Tucheng Tung Blossom Trail is a must-visit for couples, families, and Instagrammers.

  • Don’t forget your camera; the blossoms and mossy ground underfoot make for excellent photo ops.

  • Bring a flashlight and a piece of colored cellophane to light your path at night without disturbing the fireflies.

  • The Tucheng Tung Blossom Trail is not easily-accessible for wheelchair users.

How to Get There

The Tucheng Tung Blossom Trail and Tung Blossom Park are situated in the Sanxia District, about an hour outside Taipei City. On weekends during the blossoming season, the city of Tucheng offers free shuttle buses to Nantianmu Square. Otherwise, visit on a tour with round-trip transportation.

When to Get There

Each year at the end of April through early May, the Tucheng Tung Blossom Trail and Tung Blossom Park serve as sites for the Hakka Tung Blossom Festival. With a full lineup of music, dance performances, and cultural exhibitions, the festival is a great time to visit and learn about the culture of the Hakka people when the tung trees are at their best.

Things to Do in Tucheng District

Whether you’re visiting in the off-season or simply want to linger in the neighborhood, there’s more to Tucheng than just the trail. Enjoy more colorful blooms at the Lin Family Garden, make the pilgrimage to Chengtian Chan Temple, or learn more than you’ll ever need to know about nougat at the Taiwan Nougat Creativity Museum.
