Vilafor is famous for being one of Tenerife’s highest villages. You'll find cobbled streets and colonial buildings in its Old Town, plus views of wildflower fields and mountains covered in pine trees. It's also an ideal base for exploring the natural landscapes of Teide National Park.
The basics
Given its proximity to Teide National Park, Vilafor is a popular stop on full-day trips that explore the south of the island—home to the stunning landscapes surrounding Mt. Teide and the Masca Valley. Tours are either shared or private, and you can customize the latter for extra flexibility. Routes typically stop at panoramic viewpoints and provincial villages such as Masca, Garachico, and Vilafor. Other popular places include Parque del Drago, San Miguel de Abona, and El Medano.

For incredible sunset shots, Mirador del Pino is the perfect viewpoint to visit.
There's a local artist market in Vilaflor which sells wooden artifacts, wines, and embroideries.
Vilaflor is a great place to visit for wine fans as it's part of a wine-growing region with plenty of vineyards nearby.
Don’t miss the Pino Gordo—one of the biggest pine trees on the island, which has a stem diameter of around 36 feet ( 11 meters) wide.
How to get there
If you’re traveling by car, it’s easy to get to Vilafor—just take the TF-21 road which runs right through the heart of the municipality. Alternatively, you can travel using the TITSA bus network; the 482 bus travels from Los Cristianos to Vilaflor and takes roughly an hour. The 474 bus from Granadilla is another option, which takes around 50 minutes.
When to get there
Spring (March through May) is a great time to visit Vilaflor as the plains surrounding the village are covered in wildflowers. If you want to avoid the crowds, then it's best to skip the summer holiday surge during July and August. Consider fall instead (September through November), when the mild temperatures are ideal for hiking and enjoying the great outdoors without the crowds.

Vilaflor is a playground for nature lovers. Adrenaline junkies can go paragliding, mountain biking, kitesurfing, or windsurfing nearby. There are also plenty of hiking trails nearby—such as the Corona Forestal Natural Park beneath Mount Teide National Park—which is known for being blanketed by pine trees. There’s also the moon-like rocky landscape of Paisaje Lunar and Montana Colorada.
