Villa Pisani

Via Doge Pisani, 7, Stra, Veneto, 30039

Villa Pisani is considered the queen of the magnificent villas built between the 16th and 18th centuries by wealthy Venetians along the Brenta Riviera, and its original 114 rooms were an homage to its owner, the 114th Doge of Venice. Take a day trip from Venice to admire the sumptuous architecture and vast gardens.

The Basics

Visit the villa and estate to see an enduring display of Venetian grandeur. Built in the early 18th century in a late Baroque style, the villa’s interiors showcase period furniture and art, including the showstopper ballroom ceiling, frescoed by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo with an allegorical depiction of theGlory of the Pisani Family, considered among his finest works. In addition to the villa interiors, tour the expansive grounds with gardens, reflecting pool, statuary, and a hedge maze.

Book skip-the-line tickets to avoid waiting in line, or join a full-day excursion from Venice, which typically includes round-trip transportation, a stop at Villa Pisani and other nearby Venetian villas, and a visit to the city of Padua.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Touring the villa and gardens requires a bit of walking, so wear comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.

  • There is a cafe on the villa property for meals and snacks.

  • The villa is accessible to wheelchairs via a dedicated entrance.

  • Photography without flash is permitted inside the villa.

  • A day trip to Villa Pisani is especially interesting for fans of architecture and historic gardens.

How to Get There

The villa is located on Via Doge Pisani near the village of Stra, about 20 minutes from Venice by car. Arriving by public transportation is complicated, so the most convenient way to visit is by joining a small-group or private tour that includes round-trip transportation.

When to Get There

One of the main draws of Villa Pisani are the beautiful grounds, which are in full bloom in spring and fall.

The Palladian Villas

In addition to the 18th-century Villa Pisani, the Veneto region is home to a number of villas built in the 16th century by Italian architect Andrea Palladio and known as the Palladian Villas. Among the most famous are Villa Barbaro, considered the architect’s masterpiece; Villa La Rotonda, which blends architecture with the surrounding landscape; and Villa Emo, decorated with a fresco cycle by Giambattista Zelotti.
