POINT OF INTEREST

Wadi Adventure

Mbazzarah Al Khadra, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Tucked below the UAE’s highest mountain, Jebel Hafit, on the outskirts of Al Ain, Wadi Adventure—also called Al Ain Adventure—is the Middle East’s first purpose-built water adventure park. Near Jebel Hafit’s natural hot springs, it offers a host of outdoor aquatic sports and family-friendly fun, from white-water rafting to ziplining and aerial ropes.

The basics

Set against the stunning, barren foothills of Jebel Hafit, Wadi Adventure centers on a 3,600-feet (1,100-meter) network of constructed water channels, which provide exciting-yet-safe conditions for rafting and kayaking over foaming rapids. Elsewhere, visitors can tackle the waves of a surf pool, try wakeboarding, ride paddle boats, brave an inflatable obstacle course, and unwind at the family pool, open beach, and splash area. The park also includes an aerial rope course, with a giant swing, zipline, and climbing wall.

Visitors gain entry to Wadi Adventure by purchasing a 1-day admission pass, which grants them access to the family pool, open beach, and splash zone. All other activities, such as white-water rafting, kayaking, surfing, and the aerial park, involve an additional fee.

Things to know before you go

  • Wadi Adventure is ideal for sports enthusiasts and families with kids of all ages (with free entry for children under 2).
  • Don’t worry if you’re a newbie to any activity, since basic training is provided.
  • Bring sunscreen: the park is outdoors, with little shade.
  • Wear a swimsuit or swim shorts, long-sleeved T-shirt, and sturdy wet shoes or sandals; flip-flops aren’t permitted.
  • The park has several food outlets serving everything from smoothies to full meals, plus a clothing shop, lockers, and restrooms.

How to get there

Wadi Adventure sits off Al Ain’s Hazza Bin Sultan Street (E95) near Green Mubazzarah park. No public transportation runs from Al Ain center to the gate, so you’ll need to self-drive or use cabs. If you’re visiting from out of town, self-drive is also the most convenient option: expect a 1.5-hour drive via the E66 from Dubai and a 2-hour trip on the E22 from Abu Dhabi.

When to get there

The park is open daily from morning to early evening, but it’s advisable to check admission hours as times may change. To reserve activities such as rafting, ziplining, or kayaking, it’s best to arrive early or to prebook, since many of the most popular experiences get booked up in advance.

What not to miss at Wadi Adventure

Thrill seekers shouldn’t miss the kayaking, rafting, and aerial challenges. Board a raft or sit-on kayak and paddle over any of the three rapids levels depending on your experience. Alternatively, let loose on the aerial rope system, riding the log swing high into the air and speeding down the 656-foot (200-meter) zipline over the park’s waterways.
