Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park
Sanya, Hainan, 572011
Covered by lush tropical evergreen rainforest, Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park protects a huge swath of coastal land, and contains more than 130 plant and 190 animal species. The park is also home to one of the biggest trail networks in the province. A small pagoda at the top of the highest peak affords views of Hainan Island.
The basics
While hiking is a popular way to see the park, it’s not the only way. A tourist bus shuttles visitors between scenic spots (included in the entrance fee), and there’s a rope bridge and a zipline. Other options include relaxing on a tranquil beach, dining at a mountaintop restaurant, or going for a swim in a clifftop pool. Maximize your time by prebooking a ticket with included pickup and drop-off from hotels in Sanya.
Things to know before you go
- Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and plenty of water, especially if you’re hiking; the climate is summer-like throughout the year.
- Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to do a lot of walking, even with the shuttle bus.
- Visitors can borrow wheelchairs, strollers, and trekking poles from the visitor center with a valid ID.
- If you only plan to hike, the cost of the tourist bus can be deducted from your admission ticket.
How to get there
Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park is 10 miles (16 kilometers) from downtown Sanya. To arrive by public transportation, take buses 15, 24, 25, or 27 to the park entrance. A taxi ride takes about 30 minutes.
When to get there
While the park is open throughout the year, the best time to visit is between May and September, when crowds are a bit thinner. Avoid visiting on weekends in peak season (October to April) or on Chinese national holidays.
Natural attractions on Hainan Island

Diaolou Mountain Park is known for its scenic hikes and waterfalls, while Qixian Ridge offers a steep hike rewarded by views. Offshore, the Sanya Coral Reef National Nature Reserve sets the scene for snorkeling and scuba diving adventures.
