Yongdusan Park
37-55 Yongdusan-gil, Jung-gu, Busan, South Korea
Yongdusan Park, a mountainous park in the center of Busan, is one of the city’s most popular green spaces. Its name translates to “dragon’s head mountain,” as it’s thought to resemble a dragon poking its head above the surface of the sea. Highlights of the park include various monuments to battles and Korean heroes, Busan Tower, and the octagonal Palgakjeong pavilion.
The Basics
Travelers looking for fresh air appreciate this leafy park, marked by Busan Tower. While climbing the tower requires an admission fee, it’s worth it for the view. The park is also home to a café, restaurants, aquarium, temple, and exhibition spaces that host weekend cultural performances. Busan sightseeing tours often include a stop at the park, along with other attractions such as Gamcheon Culture Village, Gukje Market, Jagalchi Fish Market, and Samkwang Temple.
Things to Know Before You Go
Families, couples, and first-time visitors should include Yongdusan Park on their Busan itinerary.
Public restrooms are available on the park grounds.
A series of stairs located within the park make it inaccessible to wheelchair users.
How to Get There
The closest Busan Subway stop to the park is Nampo-dong Station. Take Line 1 and leave through Exit 1. From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the park entrance. Alternatively, visit on a guided city tour, many of which pass by or enter the park.
When to Get There
To get the most out of your visit to Yongdusan Park, explore the park by day, but come back at night to enjoy views of illuminated Busan from the top of Busan Tower. In autumn, it’s also one of the best places to see seasonal fall colors.
Yi Sun-sin
While in the park, look for the giant statue of Yi Sun-sin, a 16th century Korean naval hero who won important victories against Japan during the Imjin War, despite his lack of naval training. He famously never lost a ship, and some historians nod to him as one of the great unsung naval commanders in world history.
