The Basics

The garden is divided into three main sections: the main hall, garden, and an artificial hill. Don’t miss the tallest structure in town, the 5-story Moon View Pavilion. There’s also a small museum showcasing historical rooms and furnishings. Visit the garden independently or as part of a Zhujiajiao sightseeing tour, which will usually include a gondola cruise down the canal along with other top attractions in town. A trip to Zhujiajiao can also be combined with a tour of other attractions in Shanghai.

How to Get There

Kezhi Garden is located in the northern part of Zhujiajiao, which is about 16 miles (26 kilometers) from downtown Shanghai. For those not visiting as part of a tour, it’s possible to take the metro (line 17 to Zhujiajiao) or the bus (Huzhu Express Line or Huzhu Special Line).

When to Get There

Kezhi Garden is open daily and can be visited year-round, with different flowers in bloom depending on the season. The garden and Zhujiajiao are popular attractions on weekends and public holidays, so visit during the week for a quieter experience.

Other Highlights of Zhujiajiao

Zhujiajiao has a number of scenic attractions in addition to Kezhi Garden. Popular sights include Fangsheng Bridge, Veranda (Lang) Bridge, the Qing Dynasty Post Office, the City God Temple, and Yuanjin Temple. Gondola rides along one of the canals in town are a favorite activity.
