Campground Overview

Introduction

Natural and spoil island campsites provide a variety of access and capacity options to those visitors who have their own boat, canoe or kayak. Reservations and a permit are required for island campsites. Canoe rentals are available for sites 1-5. Canoes are reserved by calling (386) 428-3384, after you have made your camping reservation. Sites 6-14 may only be reached with a personal boat, canoe or kayak.

Operating Hours

Park operating hours: Summer hours - 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM Winter hours - 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM Campers who are checking in at the visitor center to rent a canoe must arrive by 4:00 PM to allow time to navigate to the island and get prepared.

Summer months: Hot & humid (Temperatures average in the 90's) Winter months: Temperatures in the 40–70-degree range, with a "cold spell" where temperatures lower to the mid-30's). Hurricane Season: June 1st through November 30th (most activity normally occurs in August through October)

Apollo Beach – I-95 exit 249 - then proceed east and follow the signs. This is the northern access of Canaveral National Seashore, located on Fla A1A at the southern-most end in New Smyrna Beach.

Canoe Rental

Canoes are rented for campsite 1-5 only. Reserve a canoe by calling the Apollo Visitor Center at (386) 428-3384. Reserve the campsite before reserving the canoe. Limit to two persons per canoe.

Fire/Stove Policy

Bring your own firewood or cook stove. Firewood is not available at campsites.

Glass containers are not allowed All litter must be removed from the Seashore and place in proper trash receptacles Visitors must obey the park speed limits and all park regulations Fireworks are not allowed within park boundaries - Pets are not allowed on the beach at Canaveral National Seashore - The use of Personal Watercraft (PWC)(example: Jet Skis) is prohibited by Federal Regulation - Fishing limits are based on applicable Florida State laws - Metal detectors are prohibited by Federal Regulation - All plant and animal species are protected within Canaveral National Seashore - When authorized, containerized fires are allowed only in designated areas - Drink responsibly and follow all state laws on alcohol consumption. - Please also read Important Rules and Regulations for Permit Holders for Backcountry Island Camping at the bottom of the web page.

    No facilities or utilities exist at any of the campsites within Canaveral National Seashore. Leave No Trace camping ethics are the rule. There is no vehicle camping at the park. Camping or biodegradable toilet paper is recommended. We recommend having a cell phone at your disposal while camping in the park. Emergencies should be reported by dialing 911.
