Campground Overview

Introduction

Located at the head of Lake Chelan, Purple Point Campground is a ten minute walk from the boat dock at Stehekin Landing. All sites are walk-in sites for small to medium-sized tents. First-come, first-served during the winter; summer reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance through www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Stehekin is a remote community with limited facilities and is only accessible by foot, boat, or plane.

Operating Hours

Purple Point Campground is open year-round with vault toilets. Potable water and garbage service are available from Memorial Day weekend through mid-September but not during the rest of the year. Reservations required during peak season.

Weather

The east side of the Cascade Mountains (Lake Chelan National Recreation Area) is drier and warmer in the summer than the west side of North Cascades National Park. Summer temperatures at Stehekin reach the 90s F. Snow is off most trails by mid-July. Autumn and spring are popular for color and wildlife. Storms are common: always be prepared for a few days of rain and wind.

Directions

There are no roads or car access into Stehekin. Accessible by foot, boat or plane only. Visitors may take a passenger ferry or their own boat, which may be parked at the public docks in Stehekin with the purchase of a federal dock permit. Purple Point Campground is located approximately a ten-minute walk north of Stehekin Landing.

Purple Point Campground Peak Season Fees

Fee is per site per night, and includes a maximum 8 people (note that some sites can only fit one tent). Fee also includes service charge from Recreation.gov reservation system.

Purple Point Non-peak Season Fees

Purple Point Campground is free and first-come, first-served from mid-September to late May. There is no water or trash services during the non-peak season. Vault toilet available.

Rules & Regulations

Fire/Stove Policy

Campfires are allowed within designated fire rings. Downed or dead wood may be collected. Firewood may be available for purchase from a private vendor nearby. Fire bans are common during summer months.

Regulations Overview

Do not feed or tease wildlife - keep your food and other appealing items in your vehicle at all times except when eating/using them. Pets must be on a leash or confined at all times. Tents must not be placed on or impact vegetation. Checkout time is 11:00 am on day of departure. Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 6 am. Camping is limited to no more than 14 days from July 1 to September 1 and no more than 30 days in a calendar year. Campfires in designated campfire rings only. No breaking off of trees or branches for wood.
