Campground Overview
Introduction
There are two primitive wilderness tent areas which are accessible only by trail, Hōlua and Palikū. These sites are only reservable on recreation.gov. No first come-first serve sites are available.

Weather
Sites are located inside Haleakalā crater and involve a strenuous hike. Campers should prepare for hot, sunny, cold, wet, and windy conditions as weather can change rapidly. There is no shade or water on the crater floor, and temperatures can vary from 40-70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit at night, so pack plenty of water, sunscreen, and layers. If it is stormy, winds can exceed 80 miles per hour with temperatures dropping well below freezing.

Directions
Palikū and Hōlua Wilderness tent sites can be accessed from the Halemauʻu Trailhead (about 10 minutes from the entrance) or the Keoneheʻeheʻe Trailhead (about 30 minutes from the entrance).
Rates & Fees
Entrance Fee - Per Vehicle
All park visitors are required to purchase a 3-day Entrance Pass at the Entrance Gate upon arrival to the park. The campsite reservation does not cover your Entrance Pass. An automated entrance pass machine is available after hours.
Rec.Gov Service Fee
When making a reservation online with rec.gov, users will incur an $8.00 service fee. If making reservations using the rec.gov call center, users will incur a $9.00 service fee.

Fire/Stove Policy
No open fires are allowed in the Wilderness of Haleakalā. Campers are advised to come prepared with a small backpacking stove to prepare any meals.Regulations Overview
Camping outside of designated tent sites is prohibited. All tent sites are designated by a brown tent stakes and directional arrows. No pets are allowed on trails or campsite facilities in Haleakalā National Park. Overnight stays are limited to three (3) nights total for all Park areas in a 30-day period.Accessibility
