Overview
"Kiev is unimaginable without a podil, like Saint Volodymyr without his cross" is sung in a song about Kiev. This expresses the boundless love for one of the oldest parts of the city. This district was and remains largely an artisan district. The work of the artisans, the trade of the merchants, the gatherings of the city's fathers in the town hall, the prayers in the numerous churches of the different parishes - everything is intertwined in a quarter. These include the first in Eastern Europe Academy, the bicentennial sundial, the first pharmacy in Kiev, the old nunnery, the first tram in Tsarist Russia, the contract fairs.
