Xochimilco is Mexico's famous system of pre-Hispanic canals. Just like in ancient Tenochtitlan, it features chinampas, an ancestral farming method unique in the world, inherited from the Aztec culture for the construction of their incredible city. Due to its cultural importance, the canals of Xochimilco were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
