Settled in 1650, Framingham was named after Gov. Thomas Danforth's English hometown. By 1700 the town had grown to about 70 families. One resident, Crispus Attucks, was killed for inciting a mob against British soldiers March 5, 1770, an incident that later became known as the Boston Massacre.
