Greenbelt was constructed 1935-38 as a planned community and garden city with funds from the New Deal administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Depression glass and 1937 furnishings designed specifically for the Greenbelt houses are part of the glimpse of the past that can be had at the Greenbelt Museum at 10B Crescent Rd., one of the town's original houses. Guided tours of the museum are offered Sun. 1-5 and other times by reservation. Exhibitions are displayed across the street at the community center gallery; phone (301) 507-6582 or (301) 397-2208.
