Like most of the towns in this part of the state, Snoqualmie got its start as a lumbering center and prospered further when the railroad arrived in 1889. The completion of I-90 in the 1970s brought easy access, and in the first decade of the 21st century Snoqualmie was one of Washington's fastest-growing cities. If you're a rail buff, a treasure trove of historic railway rolling stock stands on the tracks that parallel SR 202 on the west side of town.
