The name Fishkill has nothing to do with violence, but rather comes from the Dutch word kill meaning “creek” or “stream.” In addition to its name, the town preserves its Dutch heritage at Van Wyck Homestead Museum, 504 SR 9, a Dutch Colonial house begun in 1732. It is open to the public Sat.-Sun. 1-4, June-Oct.; phone (845) 896-9560. Learn More...
