About FishkillThe name Fishkill has nothing to do with violence, but rather comes from the Dutch word kill meaning “creek” or “stream.” In addition to its name, the town preserves its Dutch heritage at Van Wyck Homestead Museum, 504 SR 9, a Dutch Colonial house begun in 1732. It is open to the public Sat.-Sun. 1-4, June-Oct.; phone (845) 896-9560.
Fishkill is a little more than an hour north of New York City in the Hudson River Valley. Between Fishkill and the town of Beacon lies Fishkill Ridge Park. A trailhead at 32 Sunnyside Rd. offers access to the park’s nearly 12 miles of demanding but scenic trails that ultimately connect to Mount Beacon Park and Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve.
AAA’s in-person hotel evaluations are unscheduled to ensure the inspector has an experience similar to that of members. To pass inspection, all hotels must meet the same rigorous standards for cleanliness, comfort and hospitality. These hotels receive a AAA Diamond designation that tells members what type of experience to expect.
