POINT OF INTEREST

Accra Mall

Plot C11 Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, Spintex Rd, Accra, Ghana

The Accra Mall is the first large-scale mall in Ghana. Step off the busy streets and into this air-conditioned oasis, where you’ll find a mix of local, regional, and international retailers. Make a day of it by grabbing a bite at the food court and catching a show at one of Ghana’s only multiplex theaters.

The basics

Accra Mall is popular with locals and visitors, selling everything from boutique souvenirs to brand-name electronics, makeup, and sneakers. But it’s more than just a practical place to run errands. It’s also a cultural center and a source of pride, which is why it’s included in many Accra sightseeing tours.

You can spend an hour to a half day exploring shops such as Sony, Skechers, and MAC Cosmetics and grab lunch at food court favorites like Burger King and KFC. If you’re interested in experiencing local culture, plan your visit to coincide with one of the mall’s regularly scheduled concerts or family events.

Things to know before you go

  • Most retailers accept credit cards, but ATMs inside the mall dispense cash.

  • The mall is accessible for wheelchair users and strollers.

  • There’s a large parking lot that accommodates a variety of vehicle sizes.

How to get there

The Accra Mall is easy to access by taxi or public transit, including buses and shared vans (also known as trotros). The closest bus stop is Spanner. Although it’s only a 30-minute walk from Kotoka International Airport, it's not safe to walk along the busy Airport Bypass Road; opt for a 7-minute taxi ride instead.

When to get there

The Accra Mall is open every day of the week with limited hours on Sundays and public holidays. It’s generally not too crowded, but expect more people in the evening and on weekends. Be sure to check the calendar on the mall website to time your visit with special events.

Get a taste of South Africa in Ghana

The Accra Mall is one of the top retail shopping destinations in Ghana’s capital city, and it also has major South African retailers, Shoprite and Game, as anchors. Browse the aisles of Shoprite to pick up favorite South African snacks like biltong (dried beef snack) or Simba potato chips, and head to Game for anything you need from a big-box store.
