Lying some 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometers) from Midway Island on Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas, the Admiral Nimitz Gallery is a part of the National Museum of the Pacific War. It's dedicated to Chester Nimitz, a native son of Fredericksburg and World War II admiral who led the Americans to victory in the Battle of Midway.
Admission to the National Museum of the Pacific War grants access to the Nimitz Gallery, a permanent museum exhibition located in the restored historic Nimitz Hotel. Inside, visitors will find multimedia exhibits and artifacts, such as biographical videos and a chronology of the admiral's life and career. The museum is in Fredericksburg and can easily be visited during a stop on Main Street.

The gallery lies in the heart of Fredericksburg, a small town roughly 80 miles west (128 kilometers) of Austin, Texas, and 70 miles (112 kilometers) north of San Antonio. It's in front of the National Museum of the Pacific War on East Main Street. Driving is the name of the game in town. From Austin, you'll take U.S. Route 290, and from San Antonio, you'll take I-10.
The gallery has the same opening hours as the museum, which is open from morning to early evening Wednesday through Monday, closing on Tuesdays. It's typically best to arrive two hours before close for a full experience. Check the museum website calendar for special events such as historical film screenings, lectures, and live battle reenactments.
The Nimitz Gallery is only part of the National Museum of the Pacific War, a Smithsonian-affiliated institution dedicated to the history and legacy of WWII in the Asia-Pacific. In addition to the Nimitz Gallery, the museum holds the George H. Bush Gallery, the Plaza of Presidents, a Memorial Courtyard, the Japanese Garden of Peace, and the Pacific Combat Zone, a site of "living history" and battle reenactments.
