POINT OF INTEREST

Alaska SeaLife Center

301 Railway Ave., Seward, Alaska

Located along the shores of Seward’s Resurrection Bay, the Alaska SeaLife Center is the state’s only public aquarium and marine wildlife rehabilitation center. Learn all about Alaska’s diverse marine life while getting up close and personal with harbor seals, sea lions, puffins, and much more.

Built in 1997 with the funds from the Exxon Valdez oil spill settlement, the Alaska SeaLife Center is dedicated to conserving marine life and caring for sick and injured sea animals. To make the most of your visit, attend one of the center’s educational presentations—or choose an encounter experience to feed and interact with some of the animals. The center also hosts beer tastings and other special events.

  • The Alaska SeaLife Center is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.

  • Kids and residents of Alaska enjoy a discount on admission. Encounter experiences are an additional fee.

  • Take a light sweater or jacket, as the fish tank area can get chilly.

Within walking distance of the Seward Railroad Depot, the Alaska SeaLife Center is situated at 301 Railway Avenue, on the southern end of downtown Seward along the Resurrection Bay waterfront. In the summer, you can take the free Seward City Shuttle to the center from various points around town.

The Alaska SeaLife Center is open daily, year-round. Hours vary depending on the season.

Many of the marine creatures that call the center home are endangered or threatened. In the seabird aviary, check out the black oystercatchers, horned puffins, and red-legged kittiwakes. The sea lions and harbor seals live in their own habitat, and in the fish tanks you’ll find cod, eels, several types of Alaskan salmon, and more. If you happen to be looking for anemones, sea urchins, and sea stars, head to the touch tank.
