Don't miss out on the ultimate water adventure.

The basics

Experience the ultimate aquatic adventure at Amarante Water Park. This modern and state-of-the-art destination promises to satisfy thrill-seekers and sun-worshippers alike. It features an array of larger-than-life water slides that will have you racing down slippery curves and plunging into heated pools. The park's multi-lane slides and twirling "snail's shell" slide are definite must-tries. Meanwhile, those seeking a more relaxing day can spend time in one of the spacious pools or lounging on a comfortable chair. Younger members of the family can have fun in the shallow kiddy pools filled with plenty of exciting water toys.

Things to know before you go

  • Ticket prices are more expensive on bank holidays and Sundays, making it more budget-friendly to visit mid-week.

  • The water park is only open in the warmer months, from June until September.

  • It's located in the small town of Amarante, only an hour from Porto.

  • There are many stairs to climb to reach the larger slides, which can be tiring and not ideal for those with physical limitations.

  • You'll find a food court in the park with many cuisines and choices, including snack bars around the pools.

  • Arrive early to snag spots on the ground to lay your towel down or rent a chair.

How to get there

The Amarante Waterpark is located near Amarante, about an hour inland from Porto. It's most convenient to have your own vehicle to reach the waterpark, with parking available onsite. Otherwise, those with a bit of patience can take public transport. There are daily buses from Porto to Amarante, then local buses S4 and S3 link Amarante town with the waterpark, with the whole journey taking around two hours one way.

When to get there

The waterpark is only open in the summer months from June until September. With the crowds swelling, particularly in August, it's in your best interest to arrive early in the day and beat the masses. It opens at 10am daily, and it's highly recommended to wait in line at 10am (or before) to ensure you get a good spot on the grass inside to lay your towel down.

New slides for adrenaline lovers

The Iberian Peninsula's largest water park has added a couple of new slides for some heart-pumping thrills. Don't miss the Aquatube, the park’s longest slide featuring a breathtaking freefall and a mix of open and closed tube sections, and the Compact Slide is the fastest in the park, with a completely unobstructed path down. These are best reserved for those with plenty of nerve!
