POINT OF INTEREST

Ancol Ocean Dream Samudra

Jalan Lodan Timur No.7, North Jakarta, Jakarta, West Java, 14430

Ancol Ocean Dream Samudra, an “edutainment” theme park, centers on dolphins but is home to creatures including sea lions and penguins. In addition to animal and stunt shows, the park has a 4D cinema and an underwater theater with shows featuring dolphins and divers. Children will enjoy the small selection of rides and the bird park.

The Basics

Ancol Ocean Dream Samudra is located within the Ancol Dreamland (Taman Impian Ancol) waterfront entertainment complex, which has a small admission charge. Tickets to Ancol Ocean Dream Samudra are charged separately and cost significantly more. One popular bundle includes both Ancol Ocean Dream Samudra and Ancol Sea World, another oceanarium concept within Dreamland. Most travelers combine a visit here with trips to more of Ancol Dreamland’s attractions. Fantasy World (Dunia Fantasi) theme park is particularly popular.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Ancol Ocean Dream Samudra will be mainly of interest to fans of dolphin shows.

  • Animal-welfare standards are lower in Indonesia than in the developed world.

  • There is only limited wheelchair access to Ocean Dream Samudra. Shows and the 4D cinema are not accessible.

How to Get There

Ancol Ocean Dream Samudra sits within the Ancol Dreamland complex on the Jakarta waterfront, about 4 miles (7 kilometers) north of MONAS (National Monument of Indonesia). Ancol Dreamland is on the TransJakarta rapid transit bus route (Corridor 5), but most travelers will find it easier to visit on a tour or with a private driver.

When to Get There

Ancol Ocean Dream Samudra is open from morning to late afternoon on weekdays, with extended hours on weekends. While the 4D cinema runs throughout the day, live shows tend to cluster in midmorning and midafternoon periods, with additional shows on weekends. Tickets are more affordably priced midweek, and the park is less crowded then.

Where to See Dolphins in the Wild in Indonesia

If you prefer seeing dolphins in their natural habitat to watching them perform in captivity, Indonesia is home to some of the world’s most diverse marine environments. Lovina, in north Bali, is one popular location for spotting dolphins. Other hot spots include the Dampier Strait in West Papua’s Raja Ampat islands and Teluk Kiluan, in Lampung, Sumatra.
