While Krabi might bring to mind images of idyllic beaches, Ao Luk is more about the jungle, especially within Than Bok Khorani National Park. Here, you’ll find trails, waterfalls, caves, mangrove forests, and the swimmable Bok Khorani pond. The park also contains a series of small islands popular for kayaking, snorkeling, and diving.
The basics
Ao Luk's biggest draw is its sea caves, easily accessible by kayak, including Tham Pee Hua Toe, believed to have been a burial site many millennia ago. There's also plenty here that can be accessed on foot, with great swimming opportunities inside Than Bok Khorani National Park. Most visitors to Ao Luk come as part of a half-day or full-day tour, most of which depart from Krabi or nearby.

How to get there
Ao Luk is located about 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of Krabi. Buses traveling between Krabi and Phuket stop in Ao Luek. The journey takes about half an hour from Krabi or 90 minutes from Phuket. However, most tour operators offer free round-trip transfers from Krabi, eliminating the need to catch a bus or take a taxi.
When to get there
Ao Luk is warm throughout the year, but rain can be a big consideration in deciding the best time to go. The rainy season starts in April and can continue into November, while January through March tend to be a bit dryer (and, therefore, slightly warmer). If you want to stay cool, your best bet is to opt for a morning rather than an afternoon tour.
