Arena Gorda Beach
Arena Gorda Beach on the east coast of the Dominican Republic offers a wide swath of white sand (the name translates as ‘fat sand’), turquoise waters, and the environmentally friendly Blue Flag certification. This quieter stretch of beach, lined by all-inclusive resorts, has shallow and calm waters—perfect for swimming.
Arena Gorda ranks among the most beautiful beaches on Punta Cana’s 31 miles (50 kilometers) of shoreline. The beach itself is open to the public, and many of the resorts that line the shore offer day passes that grant access to their amenities (including restrooms and beach umbrellas) for non-guests. Guided dune buggy and ATV tours take visitors through the countryside near Arena Gorda Beach.
Arena Gorda Beach is an excellent choice for families or those looking to escape the crowds.
Don’t forget to bring a beach towel, sun protection, and a change of clothes.
There are no public restrooms on Arena Gorda.
The beach is one of the most accessible to wheelchairs in the region.
Arena Gorda Beach is north of El Cortecito between El Macao and Bavaro beaches. Public access to the beach is via the KUKUA Restaurant Beach Club.
This beach tends to be lively but not too busy, even in high season (mid-Dec.-mid-Apr.). Lifeguards are on duty daily from 9am to 6pm, so plan to visit in these hours if you plan to swim or have children in tow.
The Punta Cana area has about 10 beaches, each open to the public. You’ll find the most convenient surfing beach, Playa del Macao, just north of Arena Gorda. The northernmost Uvero Alto beach is one of the quietest of Punta Cana’s beaches. For true isolation, rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle and head to Cabo Engaño Beach.
