Barley Hall

The basics

Barley Hall is part of the Jorvik Group, which runs five living-history attractions: Jorvik Viking Centre, Jorvik Dig, the Richard III Experience, the Henry VII Experience, and Barley Hall. Visitors can purchase a single admission ticket to Barley Hall or opt for a Jorvik Group Pastport, which grants entry to all five sites.

Entry to Barley Hall is included with select York sightseeing passes, which also provide access to other popular city sights, such as the York Dungeon and York Minster, as well as hop-on hop-off bus transport. Some sightseeing passes also include out-of-town attractions such as Beningbrough Hall, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and Castle Howard.

• Tickets are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, meaning re-entry is possible.
• The ground floor of Barley Hall can be accessed by ramp, though uneven floors and tight spaces can make it difficult for travelers using wheelchairs to get around.

How to get there

Barley Hall is in the historic center of York, off Stonegate. The hall is about a 15-minute walk from York train station and less than 5 minutes from York Minster.

When to get there

Although it’s just steps from the bustling shopping street of Stonegate, Barley Hall is usually quiet and atmospheric. Weekend afternoons are when it sees most footfall so come midweek to avoid the rush.
