POINT OF INTEREST

Benjakitti Park

Ratchadaphisek Rd, Bangkok, Thailand, 10110

After temple touring around Bangkok, take a break and head to Benjakitti Park, a green oasis in the heart of the city. With trees, a man-made lake, and bike and walking paths, it’s a pleasant place to stroll or just sit and relax. Exercisers head here to jog, ride bikes, or tone up using outdoor exercise equipment.

The basics

You can either make your own way to Benjakitti Park by BTS or MRT, or you can join a group or private tour, with a guide who can help you navigate public transportation or provide a car and driver. The park is huge and has a rich history, so guides can tell you all about it and accompany you to places like the Sky Walk, the swamp area with mangroves, and the walking paths. Plus your guide can photograph your group.

Things to know before you go

  • Explore the lake by pedal boat, which you can rent by the hour.

  • Ride a bike around the park to cover more ground, and stick to the bike lanes if you want to go fast.

  • Joggers can run as fast as they want, since running paths are separate from the walkways.

  • Take advantage of the park’s shower rooms, bathrooms, and changing rooms if needed.

  • Bring a water bottle to fill at the park's drinking fountains.

How to get there

Benjakitti Park is easy to get to. Just hop on the BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit Line to Asok Station; take Exit 4, then walk for about 10 minutes. You can also take the MRT underground to Sukhumvit Station or Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Or, take a rideshare car or motorcycle, which is a fun way to go.

When to get there

The park is open every day from early morning to evening, but hours can vary, so make sure to check before you go. Opening hours also vary on public holidays, which can sneak up on vacationers who aren’t in the know. Come very early in the morning to avoid crowds and get your steps or stretching in to start your day off right.

Bangkok food courts

After spending some time exercising or just relaxing in the park, it will be time for another dynamic Thai meal. One of the best ways to try all kinds of dishes that won’t break the bank is at a food court, and Bangkok has tons. You’ll find the Lumphini Park Food Court near Benjakitti Park, or you can head to a mall like Siam Center or Central Chidlom to explore their extensive, delicious food courts.
