Benromach Distillery
Invererne Road, Forres, United Kingdom, IV36 3EB
Benromach is a small distillery producing big results in the Speyside area of the Scottish Highlands. Housed in a Victorian structure, this distillery offers visitors the chance to learn about and taste fine single-malt whiskies through various immersive tours, including tastings.
The basics
Benromach offers a variety of tours, from simple Classic Tours to longer, interactive tours such as the Manager's Experience—led by distillery manager Keith Cruickshank—and the Red Door Experience, which focuses on the brand's Red Door Gin. You can also just stop by for a half-hour tasting.
Many visitors come to the distillery as part of a more extensive tour that includes visits to other area distilleries, and joining a tour that includes transportation is a wise idea so that you won’t have to worry about driving.
Things to know before you go
Benromach Distillery is a must-visit experience for whisky fans looking to branch out beyond the major brands.
The visitor center is wheelchair-accessible, but other parts of the property are not.
All visitors must be at least 18 years old to go on a tour or participate in a tasting.
How to get there
The distillery is located in Forres, in the Scottish Highlands, about a 40-minute drive from Inverness. If you plan to imbibe, it's best to avoid driving and instead visit the distillery as part of a guided tour. Alternatively, you can take a train from Inverness to Forres (a 30-minute journey) and then walk about 15 minutes until you reach the distillery.
When to get there
Benromach Distillery’s visitor center is open Monday–Friday throughout the year and on Saturdays from March through September. The distillery remains closed on Sundays and some public holidays, and opening hours vary by season, so it's best to check the website for the most up-to-date details about hours and tour/tasting availability.
Speyside Single Malts
Benromach Distillery is located in Speyside, an area in the Scottish Highlands that has long been celebrated for its single-malt Scotch whiskies, including globally recognizable brands such as Glenfiddich, Glen Moray, and The Glenlivet. Whisky tourism is big business in the area, and it’s worth checking out a few distilleries while you’re in the area to get a feel for the local tipple and determine what you like best.
