Blue Bay Beach
Landhuis Blaauw z/n, Sint Michiel, Curacao
On the island of Curacao, Blue Bay Beach epitomes the fantasy of a Caribbean getaway, with palm trees, lounge chairs, shade umbrellas, water sports, several restaurants, and a golf course. A favorite among families and locals, the beach boasts azure waters and plenty of on- and offshore amenities.
The basics
Cruise ship passengers often head to Blue Bay for the day when they’re docked in Curacao. You can also join a boat tour to explore the island’s beaches, including Blue Bay. The coral reef just offshore attracts snorkelers and divers, and the gently sloping shore, plus amenities like a playground and showers, make the beach a popular spot for families with young children. Water-sport rentals are available, including kayaks and wakeboards, and you can also book sailing and fishing trips here.
Things to know before you go
The entrance fee includes beach-chair rentals.
Blue Bay has several dining options, ranging from casual beachside cafés to upscale restaurants.
Not far from Blue Bay you’ll find the salt pans of Sint Michiel, a popular place for flamingos to flock.
How to get there
Blue Bay Beach is near Sint Michiel, northwest of Willemstad. A taxi from Willemstad to Blue Bay takes about 10 minutes, and from the Curacao Cruise Port it’s a 15-minute drive. There is no taxi stand at the beach, but you can arrange a pick-up time with the driver ahead of time.
When to get there
Peak season in Curacao is from December to April, when snowbirds from the north head to the Caribbean to warm up, so expect higher hotel rates and bigger crowds during this time. Curacao celebrates Carnival in January and February (check online for exact dates), making it an extra festive time to visit.
Mambo Beach
Considered the most popular beach on Curacao, Mambo Beach is just south of Willemstad, making it a convenient stop for cruise passengers. After soaking up some sun on the sand, you can stroll the boardwalk and check out the shops, restaurants, and bars. Take note that there is a small entrance fee to access the beach and topless sunbathing is allowed here.
