Yeniköy Kıbrıs Şehitleri Caddesi, Bodrum, Muğla, 48400
Set on a north Bodrum hillside, Bodrum Amphitheater (Antik Tiyatro is a relic of the ancient Greek city of Halicarnassus. Built in the 4th century BC and later developed by the Romans, the restored 13,000-seat theater offers a fantastic glimpse into the ancient world alongside stellar city views, and is a stage for concerts and events.
The basics
Admission to the Bodrum Amphitheater is free, with visitors able to explore independently. History buffs or those wanting to gain further insight into Bodrum may want to explore on a guided tour to benefit from informed commentary on the theater’s origins and structure, and its place in the story of Halicarnassus.
Many Bodrum itineraries feature a stop at the theater, including walking tours that cover other Bodrum highlights such as the Castle of St. Peter and Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. Other possibilities for visiting the theater include private tours that offer a flexible itinerary and let you discover Bodrum in more depth.
Things to know before you go

- There are restrooms on site.
- Bring sun protection as the theater is a sun trap.
- If you’re attending an event, bring a cushion or towel to soften the stone seats.
How to get there
The Bodrum Amphitheater lies on the D330 Bodrum-Turgutreis highway. The easiest way to reach it is by car, cab, or dolmus (public minibus) from central Bodrum. Parking is available outside. Alternatively, make the 15-minute walk from the harbor up through Bodrum’s Yenikoy district—it’s a steep but scenic walk. Be aware that you’ll need to cross the busy D330.
When to get there
Bodrum Amphitheater is open daily from morning until early evening, except Mondays. It’s usually quiet, although tour groups typically visit mid- to late-morning. For the best views, visit in late afternoon in summer, when the sunset over Bodrum Harbour is spectacular. A full schedule of outdoor events runs at the theater throughout the summer; check Bodrum’s ticket websites for details.
Things to See Around Bodrum Amphitheater
Take a close look at Bodrum Amphitheater’s front-row seats: some are still inscribed with the names of their long-ago sponsors. Having admired the views from the top tiers, walk downhill back into Bodrum via two of Halicarnassus’ other ancient treasures: the 4th-century Myndos Gate and the crumbled Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the once-glorious tomb of King Mausolus.
