Bodrum Bazaar
Çarşı, Külcü Sk. 49, Bodrum, Turkey, 48400
No Turkish city is complete without a bazaar, the bustling marketplace at the heart of local life. If you’re looking for a local experience, Bodrum Bazaar doesn’t disappoint, with dozens of shops and stalls selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to clothing, homeware items, souvenirs, handicrafts, and every flavor of Turkish delight imaginable.
The basics
Many Bodrum city tours include a visit to Bodrum Bazaar, and exploring with a guide is a great way to learn more about local culture, cuisine, and customs. Spend some time strolling around the market and perhaps purchase some unique souvenirs or sample some Turkish street foods or sweet treats. Many tours combine the bazaar with other attractions, such as Bodrum Castle, Bodrum Amphitheater, the Bodrum Windmills, and the remains of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.
Things to know before you go
It’s customary to haggle over prices at Turkey’s bazaars, so don’t be afraid to compare different costs and negotiate with the vendors.
Although Bodrum Bazaar is an open-air market, most of the streets are covered, providing shade from the sun.
While Bodrum is not considered unsafe for travelers, watch out for pickpockets around the market.
How to get there
Bodrum Bazaar is located in the center of Bodrum, about 5-10 minutes by foot from the coast and about a 15-minute walk from Bodrum Beach. From Bodrum cruise port, it’s a 5-minute journey by car or taxi, or you can walk for around 30 minutes.
When to get there
Bodrum Bazaar is open daily year-round and there are no official opening hours. Most souvenir shops and permanent stalls open around 10am and close about 9-10pm, although this can vary. The busiest market days are Tuesdays, when a large open-air textiles and clothing market is held, and Friday, when there are fresh produce stalls.
Traditional Turkish markets around Bodrum
If you enjoy browsing Bodrum Bazaar, then you’ll find plenty of other traditional markets on a tour of the surrounding towns and villages. Yalikavak Market is about 30 minutes by car from Bodrum, which is held each Tuesday (food) and Thursday (clothing/souvenirs). Ortakent is around a 25-minute drive, and hosts markets every Wednesday (food) and Friday (clothing/souvenirs).
