Bojo Beach

Accra, Ghana

A thin strip of water separates Bojo Beach from the bustling streets of Accra, but this quiet coastal area feels a world away. Bojo Beach is relatively undeveloped but has everything you need for a perfect beach day—and a break from city crowds. You can access the private beach, a restaurant, lounge chairs, and shaded tables on the shore for a small fee.

The basics

Surrounded by water on three sides, Bojo Beach has an island-like feel that makes it popular for resting and recharging. Bring a swimsuit, towel, and a good book or deck of cards, as there isn’t much to do except swim and relax. And don’t forget your appetite; the on-site restaurant is known for fresh lobster and tilapia.

Bojo Beach is generally cleaner and less crowded than other local beaches, making it a great pick for an Accra day trip—but don’t plan to spend the night. There aren’t any hotels at the beach, although you’ll find plenty of options for accommodations across the river.

Things to know before you go

  • Toilets and a changing room are available on site.

  • Plan to eat at the waterfront restaurant and bar, as outside food and beverages are prohibited.

  • There is a small playground for kids.

  • Occasional rough waters may make swimming unsafe; check conditions before jumping in.

How to get there

Bojo Beach is accessible from Bojo Beach Resort in Accra. The resort is about a 45-minute drive from Kotoka International Airport, but it could take much longer if there's traffic. A short boat ride from the resort takes you across the Densu River to the beach entrance.

When to get there

The best time to visit Bojo Beach is during the dry season, from November to March. Although the dry season can be warm, you’ll likely experience clear blue skies for sunbathing and calmer waters for swimming. Plan your visit earlier in the day to avoid the worst of the midday heat. Keep in mind that Bojo Beach can get crowded on weekends and holidays.

How Bojo Beach compares to other Accra beaches

Labadi and Kokrobite beaches are popular among locals and visitors for their lively crowds and loud music. By comparison, Bojo Beach is serene. It’s considered one of the better beaches for families thanks to its quiet atmosphere and calmer waters. See all of Accra’s beaches in a day by driving down the coast or booking a private tour.
