Bombay Sapphire Distillery

Laverstoke Mill, London Road, Whitchurch, Hampshire, RG28 7NR

The distinctive blue Bombay Sapphire bottle has been a staple of bar shelves since the gin was first produced more than 25 years ago. Since 2011, the company has based its production in this historic mill at the edge of the River Test, which has been transformed into a state-of-the-art production and visitor facility.

The basics

While travelers are free to enter the on-site shop, bar, and the Heritage Room—where displays chronicle the history of Laverstoke Mill—you’ll need to purchase a ticket to explore the full facility. Choose between self-guided tours, which include audio points; a short guided tour of the Dakin Still House; a complimentary drink at the Mill Bar; or a hosted tour for a more personalized experience. Tours are timed and take place daily. Special themed experiences (i.e. heritage-themed or horticulture-themed tours) and cocktail-making masterclasses take place less frequently.

Things to know before you go

  • Bombay Sapphire Distillery is fully wheelchair-accessible. Electric wheelchairs are not allowed in the still house; manual wheelchairs can be borrowed for use here.
  • Children under 5 are welcome on self-guided tours but not on hosted tours.
  • Wear flat, closed-toe shoes to ensure entry to the still house.
  • Bring identification, especially if you look young.

How to get there

The distillery is situated in Laverstoke, off the B3400 between Whitchurch and Overton. Shuttle buses run between the distillery and Whitchurch and Micheldever train stations. The #76 Basingstoke/Andover bus also stops nearby.

When to get there

The distillery opens daily year-round, but the opening hours may be shorter during the winter months—from November through March. If you’re coming by train, check shuttle bus schedules in advance of your arrival.

Inside the Distillery

The distillery is spread across several buildings. See the glasshouses where botanicals are grown; the Dakin still house, where gin is distilled; and the India House—a 1916-built building originally constructed to produce banknotes for the Bank of India and now home to the distillery’s vapor infusion stills. Finish your tour at the on-site Mill Bar where you can enjoy a gin-based cocktail.
