POINT OF INTEREST

Busan Tower

37-30 Yongdusan-gil, Jung-gu, Busan, South Korea

Busan Tower (or Diamond Tower) soars skyward 120 meters (400 feet) from the center of the city’s Yongdusan Park—where you’ll find a forest-covered mountain reminiscent of a dragon’s head. Built in 1973 and modeled on Bulguksa Temple’s Dabotap Pagoda, the tower is an architectural icon of Korea’s second city. From the structure’s observation deck, you can enjoy panoramic views that stretch across both land and sea.

The basics

Head to the viewing deck via high-speed elevator and enjoy panoramic views of Busan city, its three mountains, and the oceans on either side—the Yellow Sea and the East Sea. Visit at sunset to see the city start to twinkle into life, or go during the afternoon—once the mist has cleared—to see Busan’s port, bustling with fishing boats. Several city tours include Busan Tower on their itinerary.

Things to know before you go

  • On the tower’s lower levels, you’ll find a souvenir shop, restrooms, and a place to buy refreshments.
  • Outside the tower’s entrance, there are art installations and statues that make for a perfect photo spot.
  • Busan Tower’s elevators mean it’s both wheelchair- and stroller-accessible.

How to get there

It’s easy to reach Busan Tower on public transport—leave Nampo station at exit 7 (on Busan Metro Line 1, which has a distinctive orange color). From there, it’s a 10-minute walk to the tower, which can be reached by either outdoor elevators or stairs.

When to get there

Busan Tower is open throughout the year from mid-morning to late evening. During busy national holidays such as Buddha’s Birthday, it’s recommended to buy your admission ticket in advance to avoid waiting in line. However, on such holidays, Yongdusan Park also hosts a lively program of cultural events, so check the website for more details.

Love is in the air

All loved up? Do as thousands of young Korean couples do, and tie a padlock with a note of your everlasting love to one of the fences by the tower. The mountain’s feng shui is said to bring you good luck.
