Camp de Mar
Camp de Mar, Spain, 07160
An idyllic and well-heeled resort town that’s just a quick trip from Palma de Mallorca, Camp Mar has long appealed to jet-setters and A-listers, as well as visiting families. Set on the island’s southwest, on the edge of the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana mountains, it’s known for its well-serviced, 590-foot (180-meter) beach.
The basics
Within easy reach of Palma de Mallorca and the nearby hub of Andratx, but still far enough from the crowds, southwestern Mallorca’s Camp de Mar showcases some of the region’s loveliest scenery. Its sprawling beach—which is equipped with showers and bathrooms, and offers sunbed and pedal boat rentals—is the town’s focal point, and where many visitors spend the majority of their time. Don’t miss La Illeta, a small islet reached by a wooden footbridge.
Though it’s the prime attraction, the beach isn’t the end of the region’s charms. It’s worth going hiking and cycling in the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana surroundings, as well as exploring the shops and restaurants of Andratx and visiting the world-renowned Golf de Andratx course.
Things to know before you go
There are ramps leading onto Camp de Mar’s beach, making it more accessible to those with limited mobility.
A number of lifeguards keep watch over the water.
Note that Camp de Mar has quite an exclusive feel; it’s attracted celebrities like Claudia Schiffer and Tom Cruise in the past, with the prices to match.
How to get there
Camp de Mar is about 30 minutes west of Palma de Mallorca (and its international airport) by car; take the Ma-1. Several bus lines link the destinations as well, including the 101 and 122. The nearby hub of Andratx is even closer, less than 10 minutes by car and 15 minutes by bus.
When to get there
Summer is undoubtedly the high season in Camp de Mar (as in the rest of Mallorca), when its beach is at its most crowded and its hotel prices shoot up. For a slightly calmer and more wallet-friendly experience, aim to visit in the shoulder season, when there are fewer crowds, but seasonal businesses are still likely to be open.
Port d’Andratx
Another beautiful seaside resort town nearby, Port d’Andratx is well worth exploring. Known for its laid-back luxury, the resort boasts a uniquely picturesque harbor, hip hotels and restaurants, and the dramatic backdrop of its mountain views.
