  • The Brewhouse is accessible to wheelchair users, but due to stairs, the brewery tour is not.

Cascade Brewery is located at the foot of Mount Wellington in South Hobart, about a 10-minute drive from downtown. Buses from central Hobart stop close to the brewery; you can also catch a taxi.

When to Get There

Cascade Brewery is open 10am to 5pm daily year-round except Christmas and Good Friday. The busiest time of year is during the summer months of January and February, when it’s recommended to book tours and tastings well in advance.

Cascade Brewery Beers

Cascade’s beers are brewed on-site using Tasmanian-grown hops and barley, and water sourced from Mount Wellington. Popular brews include Cascade Pale Ale, the original Cascade beer; Cascade Premium Light, the top-selling light beer in Australia; and Cascade Draught, Cascade Bitter, and Cascade Lager. The brewery also produces a range of Mercury Ciders.

How long is the Cascade Brewery tour?

The standard Cascade Brewery tour is typically one hour; history tours of the facility are 45 minutes. Visitors are encouraged to arrive about 15 minutes in advance. During the standard tour, you’ll learn about one of the nation’s oldest beer recipes, explore behind-the-scenes of the brewery, and wrap up with a tasting.

Is Cascade Stout being discontinued?

Yes, the original Cascade Stout has been discontinued as of 2021, but Cascade Export Stout can still be found on shelves. Expect roasted malt and coffee flavors with dense foam and a dash of bitterness. If you’ve got a craving for the original Cascade Stout, it shouldn’t disappoint.

What happened to Cascade Premium Lager?

Cascade Premium Lager has gone through a revamp, recipe-wise: The classic beer now touts all Tasmanian ingredients, including Tasmanian hops. It’s also down to 4.5% ABV from 5.0%, which has reduced some of the beer’s astringency and given it a better mouthfeel. The Cascade team considers it both a meaningful and delicious upgrade.
