The basics

Go behind the scenes on a distillery tour and see the 1,200-gallon (4,540-liter) Vendome copper pot still, the original Christian Carl pot still, and the 30-foot (9-meter) tall Gun Bay Vodka tower inside the custom-built facility. The tour concludes with a tasting of their Seven Fathoms Rum, Governor’s Reserve Rum, Gun Bay Vodka, and seasonal Distiller’s Special, available only at the distillery. Visit the distillery independently or as part of a tasting or sightseeing tour around the island.

Things to know before you go

• The legal drinking age in the Cayman Islands is 18.

• There’s a fee for the distillery tour, with discounts for groups of five or more.

• It’s best to book tours in advance, as they often sell out.

How to get there

Cayman Spirits Co. is located at 68 Bronze St., in George Town, on Grand Cayman. The distillery is situated just east of Esterly Tibbetts Highway, near the Butterfield Roundabout. It’s an easy taxi ride from George Town and the Seven Mile Beach area. Some tours include a stop at the distillery.

When to get there

Distillery tours last 30 to 40 minutes and are held thrice daily at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm, from Monday through Saturday. It’s best to book in advance to secure your preferred timeslot. Groups and special events can request special tour times. The venue is also available for private functions.

Available spirits

The flagship Seven Fathoms Rum is made from organic sugar cane from Grand Cayman’s East End, stored in bourbon casks, and anchored at 42 feet (13 meters), or seven fathoms, underwater to age. The Governor’s Reserve rum comes in dark, spiced, gold, white, overproof, coconut, banana, and seasonal varieties. The Gun Bay Vodka is chill-filtered and sifted through coconut shells. The H.H. Hutchings liqueurs include triple sec, amaretto, schnapps, coffee liqueur, blackberry liqueur, and seasonal releases.
