When to Get There

Cenote Zazil Tunich is open daily from 3pm until 8pm, making it the ideal place to cool down after a morning of exploration. It’s busiest during Mexican national holidays and at weekends, so visit in the week to beat the crowds. However, the Mayan Ceremony is only held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.

The Cenotes of the Yucatán

Yucatán is a Swiss cheese of cenotes, many of which are open to the public. If getting to Cenote Zazil Tunich proves difficult, consider visiting Cenote Zaci in the heart of Valladolid instead. Alternatively, Cenote Lol-Ha is an incredibly deep cenote suited to strong swimmers, while Cenote Ik Kil is conveniently close to Chichen Itza and a staple of day trips to the Mayan ruin.
