POINT OF INTEREST

Champagne Bollinger

20 Bd Maréchal de Lattre, Ay, France, 51160

In the heart of the UNESCO-listed Champagne region, travelers can step into a world of French heritage, craftsmanship, and winemaking. Located in Ay, a quaint village surrounded by rolling vineyards that have been part of the region’s wine culture for centuries, Champagne Bollinger offers visitors the chance to explore its cellars and taste its offerings.

The basics

Since 1829, Bollinger has produced some of France’s finest champagnes, earning its place as one of the most esteemed names in the industry. Visitors can learn about this rich history by booking a tour. Along with cellar visits and tastings, there are also special events, such as garden parties and harvest experiences, which you can sign up for by joining the house’s 1829 club. Guided tours of the Champagne region that depart from Epernay and Reims often include a visit to Champagne Bollinger.

Things to know before you go

  • Visits to Champagne Bollinger are by appointment only, which ensures an intimate and personalized experience.

  • Tours include tastings of both vintage and non-vintage champagnes.

  • There is no elevator, so unfortunately the cellars are not wheelchair accessible.

How to get there

Champagne Bollinger is located in Ay, which is about 30 minutes from Reims by train or car, and free parking is available. From Paris, it takes around 1.5 hours by train with a change in Reims, or around 2 hours by car. Champagne Bollinger is about a 15-minute walk from the train station.

When to get there

Champagne Bollinger is open to visitors only on weekdays and is closed on weekends and national holidays. The best time to visit the region is from April to October, when the vineyards are lush and the weather is warm and pleasant. September, the harvest season, offers a festive atmosphere and a firsthand look at the winemaking process.

Pressoria

Just a 15-minute walk from Bollinger, Pressoria is an interactive museum housed in the former pressing room of Champagne Pommery, where you’ll find an engaging introduction to bubbly. Visitors can learn about the winemaking process from start to finish using all five senses, from smelling different grape varieties to tasting different types of Champagne.
