Chillout Ice Lounge
Times Square Center, Ground Floor, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Tucked into Dubai’s Times Square Center alongside Sheikh Zayed Road, the Chillout Ice Lounge is the city’s—and the Arabian Peninsula’s—first ice bar. While outside temperatures can hit 118°F (48°C), this fun and beautiful venue lets visitors relax in an illuminated, ice-carved lounge—a novelty in the usually scorching metropolis.
The Basics
Centered on a frozen lounge where everything is made from ice—including the tables, chairs, and glasses—the Chillout Ice Lounge offers a unique sub-zero retreat in sun-drenched Dubai. Visitors come to experience the Arctic-like interior, maintained at an ultra-chilly 21°F (-6°C), which offers a stark contrast to the outside heat, and to eat and drink amid the venue’s stunning giant ice sculptures, which are illuminated in ever-changing colors.
Visitors pay an entry fee and are supplied with outer thermal clothing before briefly waiting in a buffer zone at 21°F (5°C) to help them acclimatize to the lounge’s below-zero temperatures. Options for visiting include prebooking tickets to skip lines at the door, or purchasing combos that include convenient round-trip transport. If you’re planning a wider exploration of Dubai, consider a city sightseeing pass that includes admission to the lounge and other attractions.
Things to Know Before You Go
- The Chillout Ice Lounge appeals to anyone of any age who loves novel experiences.
- Visitors are given hooded jackets, gloves, and snug socks and shoes to keep warm. Thermal pants aren’t included, so it’s sensible to wear your warmest-possible leg coverings before visiting.
- Choose a tour that includes round-trip transfers to avoid having to plan transport.
- Plan to stay for about an hour, before the cold begins to bite.
How to Get There
The lounge is inside the Times Square Center mall on the eastern side of Dubai’s north-south Sheikh Zayed Road. The easiest way there is by cab or driving yourself—complimentary parking is available at the mall. Alternatively, book a tour that includes return transfers, or ride Dubai’s Red Line Metro to Al Safa and catch a bus or taxi from there.
When to Get There
The venue is open mid-morning to mid-evening daily, but it’s wise to confirm entry hours before visiting and consider purchasing tickets online to guarantee admission for your preferred time. The venue gets busy Saturday and Sunday afternoons, so for a quieter experience, consider visiting Monday through Friday.
Eats and Treats at the Chillout Ice Lounge
The lounge menu includes dishes specially chosen to reflect foods popular in some of the world’s coldest, snowiest regions, such as the European Alps. After a free welcome drink, you can keep warm with chicken soup or signature hot chocolate. Don’t miss the nitrogen-cooled popcorn: this frozen snack produces a foggy vapor from your mouth that’s right in keeping with the icy setting.
