Located in the heart of bustling Tsim Sha Tsui, Chungking Mansions offers a diverse collection of shops, restaurants, bed-and-breakfasts, small businesses, and residences spread over 17 floors and five blocks. Visit the Chungking Mansions and you’ll find a melting pot of global commerce and cultures.
The Basics
Chungking Mansions has over 80 B&Bs, offering nearly 2,000 rooms, and some of the cheapest rates (and smallest rooms) in town. Visitors also come here to shop or to do business with the money exchangers, grocers, and other shopkeepers who sell clothing, mobile phones, and cheap electronics. In addition, there’s a large concentration of ethnic restaurants, and many travelers come here for South Asian or African food in particular. Shops and restaurants can be found in both the retail podium and the upper floors of the building.
Visit independently or as part of a guided walking tour that will feature other area highlights, including Temple Street Night Market and the Peninsula Hotel, just down the street from Chungking Mansions.
Things to Know Before You Go
Although Chungking Mansions has largely been cleaned up, illicit activities (like drug deals) do still take place here, particularly in the stairwells.
Different elevators serve different blocks and floors.
There are often long wait times for the elevators in the building.
Touts can be fairly aggressive here.
Money exchangers in the building offer a wide range of rates.
How to Get There
Chungking Mansions is located on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. Take the MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui Station (Exit N5 or Exit E). A number of buses also stop nearby, including bus Nos. 1, 2, 6, 7, 9, 13X, 14X, N21, 26, and 41A. A more scenic option is to take the Star Ferry from Central, then walk about 15 minutes.
When to Get There
Chungking Mansions can be visited at any time. If you are not staying here, then you are probably coming here to shop, eat, or just check out the vibe. It’s best to visit during the day. Keep careful track of your belongings and surroundings if you visit late at night.

Chungking Mansions is located right on Nathan Road, one of the main thoroughfares in Kowloon and a popular shopping, dining, and nightlife destination. Also nearby are the Hong Kong Space Museum, Hong Kong Art Museum, Hong Kong Cultural Center, and the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, which offers great views of Victoria Harbor and Hong Kong Island, as well as the nightly Symphony of Lights show.
