Whether you’re in the market for some souvenirs or just want to see one of the best places in Bangalore to take photos, Commercial Street is your spot. This bustling thoroughfare is a fun place to wander and shop–just be ready to do a bit of bargaining. As one of the most popular destinations of its kind in Bangalore, it’s included on plenty of tours, including those focused specifically on shopping.

Things to know before you go

• Commercial Street is a must-visit for photographers and shopping fans.

• Be prepared to bargain, but don’t be surprised if vendors (particularly those in brick-and-mortar shops) tell you that they have fixed prices.

• Wear comfortable shoes no matter when you visit, and make sure to wear sunscreen and carry water if you come during the day.

How to get there

Commercial Street is northeast of Sri Chamarajendra Park (Cubbon Park). Without traffic, it’s a 15-minute drive from Bangalore's main train station (Bengaluru City Junction). The easiest way to get to the strip is by taxi, autorickshaw, or on a guided tour. You can also take the metro to the Cubbon Park station, but it’s still about a 20-minute walk away.

When to get there

The shops on Commercial Street are open daily from mid-morning well into the evening. Come first thing in the morning for the fewest crowds and, potentially, the best deals (some shopkeepers consider it auspicious if the first shopper of the day makes a purchase). If you’re a fan of street food, come around or just after sunset, when the snack vendors are out in full force.

Visiting Sri Chamarajendra Park (Cubbon Park)

For a very different ambiance from Commercial Street, head over to nearby Sri Chamarajendra Park (Cubbon Park), one of the city's main green spaces. This lovely park is full of trees and shrubs and has sprawling lawns that draw in plenty of nature enthusiasts. It’s also a great place for a morning jog or a bit of sunrise birdwatching.
