Copernicus Science Centre
Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie 20, Warsaw, Poland, 00-390
The Copernicus Science Centre offers a hands-on, fun-filled exploration of science with more than 400 interactive exhibits to discover. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to conduct experiments and discover scientific principles firsthand, from constructing bridges to exploring the digital brain. With workshops, mini-labs, and a planetarium, it's an educational and entertaining destination for science enthusiasts and families.
The basics
Most people visit the Copernicus Science Centre independently rather than on a guided tour, but it's a common practice to book tickets to the popular attraction in advance. The center is a highlight on various tours, including half-day bike tours, which often pass by it. It also may be highlighted on private Old Town walking tours; however once you're inside, there are no fixed pathways, so travelers typically explore at their own pace.
Things to know before you go
Strollers are not allowed in certain areas, such as the High Voltage Theatre and the Robotic Theatre, but they are permitted in most exhibition areas.
The center is equipped with lifts, platforms, and wheelchair-accessible bathrooms.
Plan for at least two to three hours at the Copernicus Center to fully experience the exhibits and activities.
Use lockers instead of the traditional cloakroom to avoid long lines.
Children up to 2 years old can enjoy free admission.
There are water experiments for children, so it’s advisable to bring spare clothes.
How to get there
To access the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw's Powisle district, you can get the Nos. 106, 118, or 127 buses to Biblioteka Uniwersytecka, which is a 4-minute walk away. Alternatively, the M2 metro line stops at Centrum Nauki Kopernik, which is a short walk away. For those driving, free street parking is available on weekends, and paid parking lots are accessible throughout the week.
When to get there
For a pleasant visit to the Copernicus Science Centre, aim for weekdays outside of May and June when school groups frequently visit. The mornings and early afternoons generally offer quieter times for exploration. Be sure to check ticket availability beforehand, especially for peak hours and weekends. Additionally, consider arriving early to maximize your time before the crowds arrive.
Highlights of the Copernicus Science Centre
There are more than 400 interactive exhibits to discover at Copernicus Science Centre, which are divided into six sections. The Experimental Zone is one of the most popular areas, with its interactive hands-on exhibits. Visitors can build a magnetic bridge, learn about electricity, experiment with sound, and create a smoke ring like those above Mt. Etna. For live shows, you can visit the High Voltage Theatre, and those under 5 can stay entertained at the Buzzz! Gallery.
