The estate is a gorgeous place for wine tasting; you can sip while gazing at the lush vineyard and dramatic mountains. Tours of the Cape Winelands often stop here for cellar tours and tutored tastings with the estate’s wine experts. If you have time for a longer stay, you’ll find luxurious lodges, private plunge pools, and two restaurants that celebrate South African ingredients and offer thoughtful wine pairing to complement your meal.

• The Delaire Graff Estate is the place to splurge if you’re planning to shop, so make sure to save room in your suitcase so you can explore their two onsite boutiques.

How to get there

Located an hour away from Cape Town by car, the estate is an excellent option for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Head east along the N1 before driving through Stellenbosch and taking Helshoogte to your destination. If you don’t have a car, pick a wine tour which includes a stop at the estate.

When to get there

The winter months, from May through September, mean smaller crowds and lower prices. The rainy season (literally) falls during July and August. Curl up by the fire in the Wine Lounge in September and enjoy the new greenery coming to life. Aim for a weekday visit to avoid crowds, and arrive in the early afternoon, as tastings at the Wine Lounge don’t take reservations.

How to keep the relaxation going

Sipping a smoky, floral glass of the Terraced Block Chardonnay while surrounded by artwork is a great start, but head to the estate’s spa to truly find that vacation bliss. The spa offers indulgent treatments, a sauna and steam room, and a pool and jacuzzi with unbeatable views. The spa is home to artworks that were chosen for the peace that they bring—of particular note are the tranquil Sentinels sculptures by Deborah Bell.
