POINT OF INTEREST

Domaine Chandon

1 California Drive, Yountville, California

Napa Valley’s Domaine Chandon, which is most famous for producing a French-style sparkling wine, dates back to 1973. Come to celebrate a special occasion or just because you love an excuse to drink bubbly. The winery also makes pinot noir, rosé, and other varietals of still wine.

Domaine Chandon is located in the town of Yountville in an area full of wineries, making it easy to visit on a day of wine tastings. Book a wine tour with provided transportation to avoid any drinking and driving worries, or opt for a private tour to customize the wineries you visit. For something extra special, take a sunrise hot air balloon ride at Domaine Chandon, ending with breakfast and bubbles.

It's possible to visit the winery independently for a tasting session sans tour. In addition to a tasting room, a terrace, lawn, patio, and lounge, Domaine Chandon offers a variety of areas to enjoy a flight, glass, or bottle of wine.

  • Reservations are required at Domaine Chandon for groups of 10 or larger.

  • A light food menu is available in the tasting room.

  • Some group wine tours include winery tasting fees while others don’t; read the inclusions before booking so you know what to expect.

  • When planning your trip to Napa, factor in time for traffic, as Bay Area locals flock to wine country on the weekends.

  • Many wine tours depart from San Francisco, but some only pick up in Sonoma or Napa, so make sure you book a tour that matches your location.

Domaine Chandon sits on the west side of Highway 29, about 15 minutes north of Napa and three miles (five kilometers) off the Silverado Trail. The winery is 60 miles (95 kilometers) north of San Francisco.

The winery is open daily from late morning to early evening. Popular events include Friday happy hour and Sunday brunch.

Home to one of the top restaurants in the country—Thomas Keller’s the French Laundry—the small town of Yountville features many eateries worth visiting. Other favorites include Bottega, Bistro Jeanty, and two more Thomas Keller spots—Ad Hoc and Bouchon Bistro.
