Donaupark
Vienna, Vienna, 1220
A lush expanse of green on Donauinsel (Danube Island), Donaupark’s manicured gardens, tree-lined paths, and glades offer an escape from city noise that’s popular with both locals and travelers. Keeping watch over it all is the Danube Tower (Donauturm), a landmark where you’ll find an observation deck and rotating restaurant.
The basics
From a giant chess board to the skate park, there are plenty of things to see in Donaupark, and paths for cycling and walking keep it all connected. Well-placed benches offer views of bright flower beds, with playgrounds that make this one of Vienna’s best stops for families, who shouldn’t miss the colorful Danube Park Miniature Railway. For many visitors, the Donaupark is the gateway to the Danube Tower, whether they’re planning a meal or just checking out the view.
Things to know before you go
*Donaupark is great for active travelers, including walkers, runners, and cyclists.
*Vienna Pass holders get included admission to the Danube Park Miniature Railway.
*Wheelchairs can reach the Danube Tower observation deck, but not the café or restaurant.
How to get there
Donaupark can be reached by taking the U1 line from downtown to the Alte Donau underground stop; from there, it’s a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) walk to the Danube Tower. Alternatively, bus 20A stops near Alte Donau and continues along the edge of the park to the Danube Tower and other Donaupark landmarks.
When to get there
Spring is especially scenic in Donaupark, with flowering trees and gardens that are at their very best. While it’s possible to visit Donaupark at any time of day, the Danube Tower and Danube Park Miniature Railway (which is only open March through October) have more limited hours, so it’s worth checking those schedules in advance.
Donaupark WienMobil Rad stations
While there’s no WienMobil Rad station inside Donaupark itself, two pickup points make it easy to grab a bike for a ride in the park. The Millennium Tower station, located at Maria-Restituta-Platz, is a 10-minute ride from the Danube Tower; the 212 Radingerstrasse station (near the Vorgartenstrasse underground station) is 10 minutes from the southeastern side of Donaupark.
