El Dorado Water Park

Cap Cana, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, 23000

Swap out another afternoon on the undeniably beautiful beaches of the Dominican Republic for a day of fun at Cap Cana’s El Dorado Water Park. The huge park has more than 20 attractions across four zones—you can float down the lazy river, zipline over the water, swim with mermaids (real ones, honestly), snorkel through limestone caves, and more.

The basics

Unlike the mythical golden city of El Dorado, you won’t have to search hard for the treasures at the El Dorado Water Park. It was designed with all travelers in mind, from toddlers just wanting to splash around to thrillseekers searching for their next water-powered adrenaline rush. There are also attractions on dry land, including a Roman-style amphitheater that hosts concerts, an instrumental playground, and beautifully landscaped tropical botanical gardens.

Most people visit El Dorado Water Park independently so they can spend as long as they like there—a full day is recommended. Pre-purchasing tickets in advance is handy, especially during high season and other busy periods.

Things to know before you go

  • There are several restaurants and bars at the park, including a kid-focused café. Outside food isn’t allowed.

  • Inflatable floats and kid- and adult-sized lifejackets are available in the park, but you’re not allowed to bring your own (for safety reasons).

  • The park maintains a “conservative” dress code as it is a family-friendly destination: Leave the revealing or transparent swimwear and thong bikini bottoms back at the hotel.

  • Keyless electronic lockers are available to rent, as are towels if you’ve forgotten to bring your own.

How to get there

El Dorado Water Park is conveniently located near the airport at Cap Cana, meaning it’s also just a short drive from many Cap Cana resorts. You can catch a taxi to the park if you don’t have your own car; if you are self-driving, free parking is available as is VIP parking for an extra fee.

When to get there

El Dorado Water Park is open Thursday–Monday, from mid-morning until early evening. Peak tourism season in the Dominican Republic is December through April, so the park is likely to be busiest during these months. To beat the crowds, visit earlier in the day and avoid weekends if you can.

More water park fun in Cap Cana

Have a thing for exciting water parks? Luckily, there are many aquatic options around Cap Cana. One of the most unique is Scape Park, which offers more natural adventure attractions than the average water park. Here, you can zipline off a cliff, swim in freshwater cenotes (underground sinkholes), go caving through impressive geological formations, and more.
